Come one, come all! Tonight’s Big Top event is sure to astonish, astound, and amaze! All of the circus’ best, brightest, and fastest racers will compete in the incredible, the wonderful, and the entirely insane Race of Awesome!
In tonight’s main event, watch in astonishment as Cuckoo the Clown speeds down the midway. Watch in horror as Buri the Circus Bear rides his bouncy ball across the tight rope of death. Gander at Malrock the Magnificent as he maneuvers his flying carpet through the mirror maze, and root for Francesca the Flameeater as she attempts to navigate the roundabout carousel.
Tonight’s going to be an extravaganza you won’t want to miss!
MKM: Circus Craziness

Life has a funny way of throwing us curveballs, doesn’t it? One day you’re gearing up for a new Kickstarter campaign, the next day you’re not even sure where you’ll be during the time the campaign was supposed to be running.
Unfortunately that’s the case here. I’m sad to announce that, due to that crazy thing called “personal life,” the MKM Kickstarter campaign will not be launching next week. It’s still in the works, but at this moment I have no idea what’s in store for me over the next month and it wouldn’t be feasible to run a campaign during such a tumultuous period. Hopefully things will flatten out and return to normal soon, but for now we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
In the meantime, I’m going to … Continue reading

Monster Kart Mondays are back!
There have been a lot of things going on around here lately, but development on Monster Kart Mayhem has not ceased. Delayed, yes. But not ceased.
Monster Kart Mayhem PbF
The big news on the Monster Kart Mayhem front is that I am currently running two Play-Forum (PbF) games of MKM at RPGGeek. I had originally intended to offer seats at these virtual tables to my blog readers, but I filled two tables in under two days when I had initially planned on filling one table in a week, so I regret to say there just wasn’t room. I hope to be able to offer additional PbF games in the future though, so stay tuned.
If you would like to follow along and … Continue reading

A lot has been happening on the Monster Kart Mayhem front lately. In case you missed last week, we’re running two Play-by-Forum games simultaneously at RPGGeek. We’ve also been working on a new Alpha release, which changes/adds a few things to the game.
What’s New in Alpha 6
Goodbye, Starting Player
The Sandman has come for the Starting Player mechanic. If you recall from Alpha 5 it was marked for deletion, and after additional testing I’ve decided to get rid of it.
There were two major issues with the Starting Player mechanic, as I saw it: first, even though the race isn’t officially over until the end of the round in which the first racer crosses the finish line, it … Continue reading

In preparation of the upcoming Kickstarter campaign, I have been working hard on improving the layout for Monster Kart Mayhem and the adventure packs.
This week, I shifted from an 8.5″x11″ format to a 6″x9″ format. It’s a little easier to read on tablets and the print version will be nice and portable.
In addition to the 6×9 format, I plan to host 8.5×11 print-ready files for things like character sheets and race maps as well. That means you won’t need to scale them up to fill a whole sheet of traditional printer paper.
Additionally, I’ve learned a lot o new little typography tips and tricks over the last week, and I’m working on integrating them into the game’s layout. The overall effect is a much nicer looking book, … Continue reading

The Monster Kart Mayhem Kickstarter campaign will be going live sometime soon – either later this week or early next. With that in mind, I’d like to share a special preview of the Kickstarter page as it stands today.
There are a couple of things to note first: Some things are still subject to change, especially the video. I’m working on securing a license to use a great song by a very wonderful band, and I’m working on a short presentation to go along with it. The video of me just talking at the camera will probably go at the end.
I’ve spent a lot of time on the rest of the project and think it’s looking prety good, but if you have suggestions for it then now would … Continue reading

I’ve talked a lot about Monster Kart Mayhem in the past. Monster Kart Mondays have traditionally focused on the development process of the game, and I’ve revealed new characters, race courses, and Power-Ups as they’ve been written.
Ever since the beginning Monster Kart Mayhem has been freely available for interested readers to download and read. Every version, complete with all of its blemishes, has been there to read and play with.
But none of that really tells you how the game plays. Unless you’ve taken a spin for yourself, it’s hard to know what you’re getting into, even if you’ve read through every single Alpha file that’s come along.
I’m working on setting up a Google Hangouts game of Monster Kart Mayhem to do a live demonstration for you, … Continue reading

A lot can happen in a week. Since last Monday, the Monster Kart Mayhem Kickstarter met its initial funding goal of $1,000. I also had the opportunity to take it to my local Gamestorm gaming convention and run it for a few people, and I’ve set up a few interviews to promote the game.
I announced the successful funding of the campaign last Thursday in Campaign Update #4.
At Gamestorm, I was able to run the game twice. I got a lot of great playtesting feedback, including some valuable feedback from a mother who said she thought her kids would love the game. I’ll be making a few tweaks to the Beta document, most notably to the character sheets and player aids, to make the rules more quick reference-friendly.

It’s been a big week for Monster Kart Mayhem. Here’s what’s hapened since our last update.
Interviews and Live Demos
Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Richard Rogers for an episode of “Fund or Fail” to talk about the game and the Kickstarter project. I had a great time speaking with Richard and am thankful for the time he took to do the show. with me.
If you’d like to see a bit of Monster Kart Mayhem in action, you can also check out a live demonstration of Monster Kart Mayhem Goes to Camp. I had the privilege of playing with Chris Lewis Carter, the author Camp Myth, and I had a great time losing to him. This is the first time the Camp Myth … Continue reading

The Monster Kart Mayhem Kickstarter has entered its final week. With less than 7 days to go as of this writing, we’re in good shape and making slow but steady progress.
If you haven’t seen it yet, head on over and read Update #10, in which I recap my experience running MKM during International Tabletop Day on April 5th. I had a great time and gained some useful insights into the game.
Though the Monstrous Edition stretch goal appears to be out of reach, we may still wind up with Mermaid Adventures and/or Camp Myth adventure packs. That’s really exciting, and I can’t wait to see what happens.
I have been making minor tweaks to the game based on the continued playtesting we’ve … Continue reading
